Let’s Get Moving!

This is an easy activity in which you can use any objects found around the house. Set up a quick and easy course through your back yard you can use chalk to mark where to jump or spin, chairs as obstacles to weave through and if you have one a pop-up tunnel to crawl through! The children will get some much-needed energy burn and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment as they finish!

Materials:

  • Chalk
  • Chairs
  • Pop-Up Tunnel
  • Anything at Home that Seems Fun!

Age-appropriate Adaptations:

  • Two-year-olds—Use a familiar song while your child runs the course such as head shoulders knees and toes, or wheels on the bus to help get your kiddo moving! Show your child the course first so they have an idea of what to do.
  • Three-year-olds—Have the child describe what they want in the course (crawling, a spot where you spin, jumping) then have them help you build the course as they see it.
  • Four-/Five-year-olds—Have your child build the course themselves! Then challenge them to a race through the course with you. At this age the children will love both the act of running the course and creating it.

Skills Supported: Crawl through a tunnel, gross motor movement, STEM structure building
