How long have you been with Cadence?

I joined Cadence Education through an acquisition in January 2022.

Tell us about your career journey – where did you start and what is your position now?

Over the course of the past 15 years, my career journey has been a deeply rewarding one, rooted in a genuine passion for making a positive impact in the lives of children. What began as a role as an administrative assistant in a charter school for children with autism has evolved into a rich and diverse pathway that I have wholeheartedly embraced. From those early days, I found myself captivated by the field and chose to dedicate myself to it. Throughout my professional voyage, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of individuals, including visually impaired teenagers, young adults with autism, and most recently, preschoolers.

What is your favorite part of your job?

The true joy that fuels my dedication lies in the interactions I share with these young minds and the role I play in ensuring that the educational centers I’m a part of provide an environment where these little learners can flourish into extraordinary adults. It’s not just a job; it’s a deeply fulfilling calling that allows me to contribute to the growth and development of the next generation.

What is one of your favorite traditions to honor your heritage?

Being Cuban American, the traditions passed down throughout my life mean the world to me. They’re like colorful threads that tie me to my roots, keeping my identity strong and creating a sense of togetherness. Salsa music always sets the tone for our get-togethers, and the delicious smells of our dishes instantly take me back to my childhood. Whether we’re going all out for Nochebuena celebrations (Christmas Eve) or just sharing heartfelt stories that carry the essence of our heritage, these traditions make me feel proud of where I come from. They show the strength of my people, the beauty of our culture, and why it’s so important to treasure our history and continue to pass it down.

How do you encourage your team to foster an inclusive environment?

When it comes to getting our team on board with creating an inclusive environment, I like to keep it authentic and simple. First off, it’s all about showing respect to every single team member, no matter who they are or where they’re from. We’re like a bunch of different puzzle pieces that fit together, each bringing something unique to the table. I make sure everyone knows that their ideas and opinions matter, and I’m open to any suggestions on how we can make our schools better. We are a family on this journey and supporting each other in every aspect of life is what sets us apart. There is no room for any judgment or negativity here – just support, hugs, coffee and making sure everyone feels like they are part of the magic we create every day.

What recommendations do you have for anyone wanting a career in early childhood education?

For those considering a path in early childhood education, I offer a few nuggets. Firstly, the road of education is an opportunity to make a huge impact on young lives. Embrace it with a sense of purpose and commitment. Patience will undoubtedly be a virtue you’ll need to develop, as working with young children requires understanding, adaptability, and a calm demeanor. Every day will be different, and challenges will arise; so, flexibility is key! Creativity is your compass and finding innovative ways to engage and teach will keep the learning environment exciting. Finally, never underestimate the significance of your role. Your dedication and passion will shape a child’s perspective and set the stage for their lifelong learning journey.

What would you like to share with other Cadence team members about your schools?

At our schools, the bonds we’ve created extend beyond simple professional connections, we are a family. This sentiment encompasses not only our dedicated staff but also the families we are privileged to serve. Every triumph that our students achieve feels like a victory of our own, as we’ve shared in their growth and progress. This familial spirit is the foundation of our atmosphere, and we are committed to nurturing it and strengthening it. As we envision the future, we aspire to continue fostering these relationships, so much so that the children of today’s families may someday walk through our doors, embarking on their own educational journeys. By maintaining this deep sense of connection and shared purpose, we endeavor to create a legacy that spans generations, where each member feels valued, supported, and an integral part of our extended school family.
