Just one visit will show you that Winwood Children’s Center, Gainesville II is not an ordinary preschool. Formerly known as Lake Manassas Academy, our campus was designed by early childhood educators and arranged to give young children endless opportunity for positive interactions with the environment, peers, and teachers. Our preschool children explore a vast array of Learning Labs throughout the day and we take a balanced approach towards physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development that prepares young minds for success in elementary school and beyond.

Kind Child

Kind Child Program LogoKind Child is a beautiful program that helps us elevate the emotional well-being of every child in our care. Kind Child is one of the core subjects in our monthly curriculum and we focus on social and emotional skills every month and positive character traits like a Positive Self-Image, Responsibility, and Thankfulness every two months. Our mission is to make kindness a habit and create a preschool environment where everyone feels welcome and at home.

Kindergarten Readiness

Providing your child an exceptional education is an important part of our promise to you. The educational experiences that children take part in at Cadence Academy Preschool are much different than what you’ll find at other preschools because our curriculum takes a skill-based approach to early education.

Our proprietary Ascend Curriculum helps children reach important developmental milestones and progressively builds valuable skill sets within 9 subjects every month. These experiences start in our Infant & Toddler program and progress all the way through Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Important skills are taught in every program and fine-tuned just before kindergarten in Kindergarten Club.

Marlene Orren

Marlene Orren

Teacher

Marlene joined the Winwood family in November of 2004 as the cook. She loves to cook and hopes to one day open her own bakery; she makes wedding cakes now on the side. Marlene previously drove a school bus and was a care provider for the elderly prior to coming into the child care field. She was used to cooking large meals for her family of 5 sons (and her husband) so she brought some flavor and great food to Winwood. In 2007, Marlene broke her ankle and was bed ridden for about 3 months and upon her return to Winwood she joined the School Age room and drove the bus for us. She has a natural teacher and is very creative, often making her own games for the children. Marlene joined the Infant II room last year; she loves the little ones and brings her kind mannerisms and love of books to the room.

We love Winwood! My little guy has been coming here since he was just a couple of months old - he is a toddler now and it's been wonderful to see him learning new things at school as he's grown. They do so many fun learning activities and are knowledgable about child development across the board, so he works on fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language, building empathy, sensory exploration, early academic skills, socialization, and I'm sure there are even more that I'm forgetting! He's always been very bonded with the teachers and staff and I'm extra thankful for that now, during Covid, since his opportunities for socialization outside of daycare are so limited. We're very thankful to them for doing such a great job during such a difficult time!

I'm a first-time mom and was very nervous about leaving my three-month-old bebe with strangers, especially during a pandemic at a facility that I couldn't tour during operating hours (as a safety precaution). The Yelp reviews weren't overly encouraging either. But my husband and I decided to give it a try because of its location and the newer Google reviews and so far we've been loving our experience! Our son is in the infant room and even though there's no camera feature (like another reviewer mentioned), they do provide frequent photo updates through an app. They also update you throughout the day on your little one's bottles, diaper changes, and naps. It's so nice to be able to see what my little man is up to during the day, and I feel reassured when I can check in on him through the app. I think the negative reviews I read were from a time when the facility was under different management because so far we've had nothing but smooth sailing. My son can be somewhat fussy and every single time we've picked him up he's been completely calm and happy - nothing short of a miracle! We also love that the curriculum is bilingual, teaching both Spanish and English, and that they are taking COVID precautions seriously. Sure, it's inconvenient when you have to stay home b/c your bebe has a fever, but I rather they err on the side of caution than risk infecting other kids, teachers, and parents. Overall we've been really pleased with the care provided by the teachers and administrators and feel confident and happy in our decision to send our son here.

We have been so grateful for the family at Winwood since day 1 and have counted ourselves lucky to be a part of such an amazing school during these trying times. Our son has grown so much since joining a few years ago and we trust the staff to continue to provide quality care. They are diligent in maintaining a clean and safe environment and offer consistent communication, keeping our minds at ease. We look forward to being a part of this family for years to come!

This place amazing! My daughter fell in love with the teachers immediately. Not only that I've seen her pick up drawing when no one else was able to bring that talent out of her. Thank you to all the amazing teachers and staff!
