Academy for Creative Learning is a premier childcare center in Waco, Texas, dedicated to providing a standard of excellence in early childhood development since 1999. We utilize the latest research on how children learn by using the criteria set forth by the National Association for Education of Young Children. Childcare is available for children starting at age two, with a summer program and after school program available for children in K-4th grade.
In 2025, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 2 and provided $1 billion in funding to create the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program and give parents greater freedom and flexibility in choosing the best educational environment for their children. The TEFA program, administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, is expected to be the largest day-one school choice initiative in the nation.
At Academy for Creative Learning we practice the High Scope Curriculum education program based on the assumption that children learn best when touching and interacting with real things and having caring people around them. Our program stimulates early childhood development and education, allowing each child to reach his or her full potential and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our High Scope Curriculum follows childhood education practices endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
HIGH SCOPE CURRICULUM – High Scope Curriculum is consistent with the best practices recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). There are concrete parts that you will see implemented into our daily routine including the Plan-Do-Review process for center time, a special Small Group time each week, Letter Links, and a group Calendar Time.
Full Day Childcare Program: Year round full-day childcare for children ages 2 – 5 years old. The full-day program combines the High Scope Curriculum and the enrichment program to provide our children with the optimal foundation for their education. Monday – Friday from 7am – 6pm. After-School Program: After-school childcare for children in K – 4th Grade. We provide after school transportation from Lorena & Midway ISD* (*excluding Speegleville). Pickup Monday-Friday by 6pm. Summer School-Age Camp: Academy for Creative Learning offers a school-age camp with opportunities to experience adventures throughout the summer. ACL has a relaxed, fun atmosphere and offers a wealth of enrichment programs for your child. Campers will go on awesome field trips as well as enjoy outdoor and indoor recreation, sports tournaments, water activities, creative camp crafts, talent shows and much, much more. At ACL, growth, exploration and learning are all in a day’s work. Camp runs the entire Summer. Monday – Friday 7am-6pm.
Our enrichment program includes Science, Story Time, Spanish & Music and Movement. Classroom Lesson Plans are created by the teachers and are centered around a weekly theme. Children learn better when they can make connections between the different content areas. Lesson plans are posted outside the classrooms weekly so you can see the fun activities your child will be participating in! Upon enrollment, each family receives an Academy for Creative Learning handbook, which provides detailed information regarding our curriculum, programs, and policies.
Child Safety and Security: Our facility is equipped with the greatest technology to ensure the utmost safety of your child. Our one entry/one exit system is locked during the hours of 9 am – 3 pm and only accessible to individuals provided with a security code for entry by our office staff. During all other open hours we have, at minimum, 2 staff present in the one entry/one exit area at all times.Nutritious Meals: Nutritious morning and afternoon snacks as well as a nutritious lunch are served at the school daily. Lunch counts are taken at 9:30 am. For your convenience, weekly menus are posted at the center. Children are served in their classroom and are encouraged to use good manners and to clean up after themselves. ACL is a “nut free” facility.
Gymnastics: Flips Gymnastics comes to our facility weekly. Sign up forms will be available at the front desk beginning in September.
Hair Salon:A licensed beautician will take your child to our onsite Salon to have their hair cut while at school. Please make arrangements with the stylist or the front office if you wish to make an appointment.

Amy Williams is Head of School for the Academy for Creative Learning. Amy graduated from Texas Tech University in 1995 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Her career began with teaching kindergarten and first grade. She has been working at ACL for 21 years as a director.
Kim Graves has been a part of the Academy for Creative Learning since it opened in 1999. She has been involved in early childhood for 35 years. Her experience includes overseeing the school age program, being a part of the administrative team, and then becoming a director 13 years ago.
