About Cadence Academy Preschool in Smithfield, RI

Cadence Academy Preschool, Smithfield offers high quality child care and early learning for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and school age children. Our early learning program centers around our unique Children’s Workshop Framework curriculum, which combines RI Early Childhood Standards with the Massachusetts state standards and centers around play to provide your child with an educational experience unlike anywhere else.

Our school age buses and vans provide transportation to and from Smithfield and Johnston Elementary Schools. In addition, we service areas of North Scituate. If you are unsure if we service your area, please give us a call! Our school is located on Cedar Swamp Road, right off Route 44 about a mile past the Smithfield Crossings.

Our spacious layout gives a one-of-a-kind feel to the classrooms and allows each age group their own learning experience. We have two large playgrounds nestled safely behind our school to allow for lots of outdoor experiences, natural exploration, and safe gross motor time outside with similar age groups.

Parent Communication App

We have an extraordinary Parent Communication App that our teachers use daily to relay information and send pictures to family members, send newsletters, and track developmental progress for each child’s portfolio! With this application, parents/guardians are able to opt into email or text alerts and they can receive any information, instantaneously, about their child and their child’s school day. Teachers and staff can tag daily pictures with our Developmental Domains (Social/Emotional, Physical, Artistic, Cognitive, and Language/Literacy) and are then able to communicate with the parents/guardians by adding captions or sending quick little notes. Families LOVE this feature and we’re utilizing it more and more each day! We are so excited to be able to communicate with our families throughout the day and to show them what their children are learning each day.

Christine Millis

School Director

Christine (Chris) Millis has been in the field of early childhood education since December of 2015. She started as a Teaching Assistant and quickly moved up to Lead Toddler Teacher and Administrator. She is currently the School Director and graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education through URI in the Spring of 2025, while also welcoming her daughter to the world. In her spare time, she loves to read, crochet, and camp in the mountains with her family. She is excited for this new chapter at Cadence Academy Preschool in Smithfield, RI as a way to learn and grow.

NAEYC Accreditation

Every child deserves access to high-quality early learning experiences. NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) has set 10 standards for early childhood programs that can help families make the right choice when they are looking for a child care center, preschool, or kindergarten. The standards and criteria are also the foundation of the NAEYC Accreditation system for early childhood programs. To earn NAEYC Accreditation, schools must go through an extensive self-study and quality-improvement process, followed by an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to verify and ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are always prepared for unannounced quality-assurance visits during their accreditation term, which lasts for five years. In the 30 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC—less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.

I highly recommend Cadence Academy! My son has been attending for two and a half years and is currently in the Pre-K room with Miss Tina. She is truly a phenomenal educator—honestly a better teacher than either of my older two children have had all throughout elementary school. The level of detail she provides to parents is incredible, and her infectious, uplifting personality shines so bright and never wavers. She is always joyful, loving, and genuinely cares about every single student. She is the absolute epitome of what all teachers should be. The new director, Chris, is also fantastic. I previously had a massive issue regarding a problem with tuition with the prior director and was a few days away from pulling my son from the center entirely. However, Chris stepped in, took the time to decipher exactly what went wrong after days of research, and completely resolved the situation immediately. After six months of confusion and stress, it was a massive relief Tumblebus is also a a huge perk! The care, communication, and leadership are outstanding, and I cannot thank Miss Tina, Ms Jen, Hailey, and Chris enough for everything they do!

Our son attends Cadence Academy in Smithfield and it has beyond exceeded our expectations. As a nervous first time mom, I struggled with the transition to daycare after being home with him. Every teacher at Cadence has shown such care and compassion for our child as if he was their own. It is truly touching to see how much they care for him and even more so to see his face light up when he walks into class each morning. Right now he is in Toddler 2 class and Miss Mare is his teacher. Every day when he walks in he runs over to give her a hug with a big smile. It is amazing to see him come home each day with new skills and Miss Mare has done a wonderful job even coaching us on things we can work on with him at home. After the experience we have had at Cadence, we wouldn’t consider sending our child anywhere else!
