About Cadence Academy Preschool in Smithfield, RI
Cadence Academy Preschool, Smithfield offers high quality child care and early learning for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, and school age children. Our early learning program centers around our unique Children’s Workshop Framework curriculum, which combines RI Early Childhood Standards with the Massachusetts state standards and centers around play to provide your child with an educational experience unlike anywhere else.
Our school age buses and vans provide transportation to and from Smithfield and Johnston Elementary Schools. In addition, we service areas of North Scituate. If you are unsure if we service your area, please give us a call!
Our school is located on Cedar Swamp Road, right off Route 44 about a mile past the Smithfield Crossings. Our spacious layout gives a one-of-a-kind feel to the classrooms and allows each age group their own learning experience. We have two large playgrounds nestled safely behind our school to allow for lots of outdoor experiences, natural exploration, and safe gross motor time outside with similar age groups.

Daycare Works
Parent Communication App
We have an extraordinary Parent Communication App that our teachers use daily to relay information and send pictures to family members, send newsletters, and track developmental progress for each child’s portfolio! With this application, parents/guardians are able to opt into email or text alerts and they can receive any information, instantaneously, about their child and their child’s school day.
Teachers and staff can tag daily pictures with our Developmental Domains (Social/Emotional, Physical, Artistic, Cognitive, and Language/Literacy) and are then able to communicate with the parents/guardians by adding captions or sending quick little notes. Families LOVE this feature and we’re utilizing it more and more each day! We are so excited to be able to communicate with our families throughout the day and to show them what their children are learning each day.

Infant Care
Our infant care program invites children starting at the age of six weeks up to 18 months. Though leaving your little one for the first time is a big step, our nurturing environment is designed to feel just like a home away from home. Choosing our program ensures your baby receives personalized attention that supports their earliest developmental milestones.
Toddler Care
Our toddler care program invites children starting at 12 months up to 3 years old. Though toddlers are full of boundless energy, our environment is designed to channel that curiosity into safe exploration. Choosing a program that balances hands-on learning with guided play is a key step in fostering your child’s emerging independence.
Preschool
Our preschool program invites children starting at 3 years up to 5 years old. Though we introduce early academic concepts, we believe that learning happens naturally through open-ended play. Choosing our preschool environment helps build the essential “I can do it” confidence that serves as a foundation for their future education.
Pre-Kindergarten
Our Pre-Kindergarten program invites children starting at 4 years up to 5 years old. Though the focus shifts to kindergarten readiness, we ensure the preparation remains engaging and stress-free. Choosing our specialized curriculum ensures your child is academically and socially prepared for a smooth transition to elementary school.
Private Kindergarten
Our private kindergarten program creates an effortless transition to first grade through a full-day curriculum designed for total developmental readiness. With small class sizes and a nurturing environment, we go above and beyond standard expectations to ensure your child thrives academically and socially.
School-Age Program
Our school-age program invites children starting from kindergarten up to 12 years old. Though the school day ends, our support continues with structured before and after school care. Our Team
Christine Millis
School Director
Christine (Chris) Millis has been in the field of early childhood education since December of 2015. She started as a Teaching Assistant and quickly moved up to Lead Toddler Teacher and Administrator. She is currently the School Director and graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education through URI in the Spring of 2025, while also welcoming her daughter to the world. In her spare time, she loves to read, crochet, and camp in the mountains with her family. She is excited for this new chapter at Cadence Academy Preschool in Smithfield, RI as a way to learn and grow.
Jaclyn Montgomery
Assistant Director
Jaclyn has been working in the field of early childhood education for 15 years. She began her career as a preschool/pre-K teacher, where she spent 10 years creating engaging learning experiences and building strong relationships with children and families. She later transitioned into leadership roles, spending 5 years as a school-age program director, supporting staff, families, and program growth while helping create positive environments for children to learn and thrive. She holds a degree in early childhood education as well as a master’s degree in public administration, combining her passion for education with strong leadership and administrative experience.
Jaclyn grew up in Cincinnati and recently relocated to Rhode Island. In her spare time, she enjoys Broadway musicals, reading, spending time with friends, and exploring new places. She is excited for this new chapter as Assistant Director and looks forward to growing within the Cadence Academy Preschool community while building meaningful connections with children and families.
