Cadence Academy Preschool is proud to be a part of the Cadence Education Family of Schools.  One of the main benefits of working with Cadence Education is that it provides us access to preschool programs like Kind Child, the Ascend Curriculum, and Kindergarten Club.

About Cadence Academy Milwaukie

Cadence Academy Preschool, Milwaukie is located in the Westmoreland district in Southeast Portland. Our preschool center features beautifully designed classrooms, a community room with a lending library, an indoor gross motor area, a children’s garden, and an outdoor enrichment area.

Our Milwaukie location is 1 of 5 Cadence Academy Preschool in the Portland Metropolitan Area. We are proud to offer Portland families media-free child care services with healthy menus and small class sizes. Our philosophy is to enrich children’s lives through the creative arts and leading early childhood educational programs. Our focus is on the social, emotional, and intellectual development of each child in our care and creating a progressive, positive environment for children, staff, and families.

Our Preschool Facilities

Our preschool center was carefully designed with soothing colors, lots of natural light, age-appropriate equipment in every classroom, and murals painted by our featured artist, Stephen Williams. We have beautiful commercial kitchen with a chef who prepares a healthy lunch every day and snacks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon. There’s a laundry facility on-site to launder soiled clothes and cloth diapers. This school also features an indoor gross motor skills area for those rainy Oregon days and a community room for enrolled families, which has a comfortable area for nursing mothers.

Ascend Curriculum LogoOur preschool features the same excellent programs embraced at our other schools such as the Ascend Curriculum, music and dance, Reggio Emilio inspired art, science, gardening, and drama. We regularly take walks in our local community and offer field trips to educational places such as the Oak Bottom Wildlife Refuge.

Family Involvement

We hope you will become involved by participating in classroom activities, joining us on field trips, and attending school events. Your participation broadens our child care programs and benefits our children and staff in a very special way. Parents are always welcome to visit their children at any time.

School Director

My passion has always been to work with children, to teach them ,and help them grow. When I was around 11, my mother started having me volunteer at her in-home daycare. It was during that time that I knew working with children was something I could easily do for the rest of my life. I would lead activities, help with tutoring, answer phone calls, prepare snacks, and often times, I’d even be the janitor!

Since that time, I’ve worked with children in many different arenas. During high school, I worked as an after school tutor and a weekend babysitter. From the ages of 19-20, I worked full-time at a summer camp & after school program and from 21-25, I worked with an International non-profit organization traveling the world, teaching English, music, art, and math to children in third-world countries.

I started as the Lead Teacher for our 1’s classroom, was promoted to AD and I currently serve as the School Director. I have truly enjoyed my time here and I hope to continue being a part of this great community!

Our daughter has attended this school for nearly 2 years (she's 2.5), and our son just started there as a 6 month old. After our positive experience with our daughter, we had no reservations about sending our son here as well. The teachers and staff genuinely care about our children, and create fun, age-appropriate and educational activities to keep them engaged on a daily basis. They receive healthy prepared meals and get outside when weather permits, both of which were important to us when selecting a childcare option. I receive frequent updates on their daily activities throughout the day, and usually hear a fun story about my child at pickup time. The staff has been extremely transparent about their operations and protocols throughout the COVID pandemic; I know that our children are safe and well cared for.

We started here in July 2020, right after things started opening up after lockdown. My newly-turned 4 yr old immediately loved the place. She loves her teachers, and all the kids seem so kind to each other. It's a small group setting, which feels intimate and cozy. She always came home with some new story about what she learned, and adventure they took, or some project they did. She loved it. She's moved on to Kindy (at the Sellwood location), and now my younger son is at the Westmoreland Cadence too. He also absolutely loves it there. The teachers seem to genuinely care about each of the kids, and were very happy to help us work through some eating issues. It's been a really rough 1.5 yrs for childcare centers, with strict COVID protocols and staffing challenges. I've been impressed with how well they handle the challenges, really doing all they can to limit disruptions to families and being very straightforward in communications.
