About Cadence Academy Sellwood

Cadence Academy Preschool, Sellwood opened in 2011 and has since served 100s of families in SE Portland. Our preschool center has a private children’s garden, naturally designed outdoor playground space, laundry facilities, and a community room for nursing mothers. Our beautiful preschool classrooms feature artwork by a local artist who was also a teacher at Cadence Academy, Allison Bratt.

Our Sellwood school provides a secure and loving environment for children between the ages of 3 months to 6 years of age and offers daycare services for infants and toddlers and early education programs for preschool and kindergarten students. We seek to enrich children’s lives through our skill-based Ascend Curriculum while developing self-esteem and confidence. Our young students are exposed to creative ways of learning while experiencing arts, music, and dance in an educational and visual environment.

Our Programs

Our Preschool Teachers

Love and Logic LogoOne of the strengths of our program is our teachers. We enjoy a low turnover rate and our preschool teachers have years of experience in certified childcare centers. Many of our Lead Teachers have Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education and Early Childhood Education and we require our Lead Teachers to have at least two years of experience working in a daycare center. Our teachers participate in ongoing professional development trainings and are Love & Logic certified. Our teachers are leaders in their classrooms and help us envision and create affirming experiences for our children and families.

Exploring Our Beautiful Sellwood Community

We love exploring Sellwood! Children at Cadence Academy, Sellwood get to enjoy walking trips to nearby Sellwood Library and Sellwood Park, which is only three blocks away from our preschool. We also take our preschool students on fun field trips to destinations like the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and the Portland Children’s Museum.

Our child has been with Cadence since she was barely 3 months old and we have watched her grow by leaps and bounds thanks to the love and guidance of the amazing teachers and staff. She is about to join the kindergarten class but sadly we are moving out of state so she will not be moving on with the rest of her classmates. We will miss everyone at Cadence and we are extra grateful to the staff, teachers, and families for all the mutual support and care everyone has shown throughout this pandemic. Cadence has truly been the best place for our child.

Cadence Academy in Sellwood has been a fantastic daycare experience. Alana and Allison who run the center are fantastic, and go above and beyond. They feel involved and make the center feel well run and like a safe place to leave kids. The teachers (especially Allison E who works with the Jr Toddlers and is incredible and creative) and staff who work there have all been warm, friendly, nurturing, and a huge hit with our son. So happy we have this place in the neighborhood, would fully recommend it!

My twin boys are in their third year at Cadence. Their teachers and providers have been compassionate and intelligent throughout. My boys are now in Kindergarten and have attended full-time during the COVID pandemic, and our expectations have been met while in their care. Alana and Alison, the on-site managers, are fabulous, hard working, diligent and wonderful! As turnover continues, I can’t help but wonder if the staff needs to be paid more. The money paid toward tuition should get fairly handed down to the staff running the daily operations and managing and loving our kids. Preschool and kindergarten teachers are essential to all of ours and our kids’ future. They should be paid a respectable and living wage which they are proud of. I don’t think the corporate executives should benefit as highly as they do. As both a mother and an RN, I recommend Cadence for care and cleanliness but not for staff stability.
