What Happens Next?

By now, you’ve gotten into a routine of reading to your child. This activity has such a lasting impact on your child’s developing reading skills and literacy. At school this month, we are using story clues to make predictions about what we think will happen next in a story. When children make story predictions, they are demonstrating their understanding of the story’s content—both the explicit text and the content implied by the story’s words and illustrations. Making predictions also requires your child to use what they know about the story to make a reasonable hypothesis, which supports their developing critical thinking skills.
