About Winwood Children’s Center Preschool in Lansdowne, VA
Winwood Children’s Center, Lansdowne offers a safe & stimulating preschool environment where young children and their families experience peace of mind. We recognize that it isn’t easy for parents to leave their children in the care of others, so we make concerted efforts to keep you connected with your children while you are away. We have an app where our daycare providers and preschool teachers send you pictures and updates throughout the day.

Ascend Curriculum
Thanks to the flexibility of our Ascend Curriculum, we take an individualized approach to early childhood education and encourage every child to progress towards age-appropriate goals at their natural pace. New skills are introduced sequentially in 9 different learning domains each month and activities are modified to fit the interests and current skill level of each child. This skill-based approach to early education ensures that every child feels engaged, supported, and challenged and makes learning fun!
Kind Child Program
Another significant part of our curriculum is our Kind Child program. Kind Child is a year-long program for children ages two and older that helps our teachers nurture and strengthen every child’s social and emotional skills. We have found that when we focus on the emotional well-being of each child in our care, we strengthen our school as well. We are confident that Kind Child will continue to strengthen the culture of our entire preschool center by elevating every child’s feelings of happiness, improving their well-being, and enriching their friendships.
Homelike Environment
A warm, homelike environment is one of the features that separates our school from your typical daycare center. Vibrant colors, overstimulating designs, and clutter can be overwhelming to young children and lead to behavioral problems. We have found that children transition more successfully from home to school when the school environment is conducive to their home environment, so we use more natural tones and include elements such as pillows, fabrics, soft seating areas, soft lighting, and accents from home.
Cadence KickStart™ Soccer
Big Fun. Little Players. Growing Confidence.
Cadence KickStart™ Soccer is a high-energy enrichment program designed to build confidence, coordination, and teamwork through fun, age-appropriate soccer play. Led by the teachers your child already knows and trusts, it’s seamlessly built into the school day.

12-week program (once per week)
40–50 minute sessions
Builds balance, coordination, and motor skills

Cooking Up Confidence, One Recipe At A Time!
Kids Café is a hands-on cooking program where children explore new foods, build confidence, and develop essential life skills through fun, guided kitchen experiences.

Getting To Our Preschool
Winwood Children’s Center, Lansdowne is at the corner of Riverside Parkway and Upper Meadow Drive and our address is 18792 Upper Meadow Drive in Lansdowne, Virginia, 20176. We are less than a mile north of VA-7, which makes an ideal choice for parents who commute to Leesburg, Potomac Falls, and Ashburn.

Kirsten Benavides
School Director
Kirsten Benavides has dedicated her career to helping children build confidence, develop a strong sense of self, and foster a lifelong love of learning. She completed her coursework through the Professional Council of Recognition and studied Child Development. Kirsten is passionate about supporting children during their most formative years and believes strong relationships are the foundation of a successful learning community. She is passionate about providing guidance, leading with love, intention, and fidelity, and creating an environment where children, families, and team members feel valued and supported.
Kirsten began her career in education in 2008 as a private kindergarten teacher and spent 17 years in the classroom, where she earned the National Teacher of the Year Award from NLCI in 2016, before moving into leadership roles. Throughout her career, she has served as a Curriculum Facilitator, Co-Contributor, and educational trainer, helping train educators in implementing curriculum and building an Online Academy during the pandemic. Outside of work, Kirsten enjoys reading, photography, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with her daughter, Fallon.
Ashley Rae
Assistant Director
Hello! I’m Ashley Rae and I’ve been with Winwood Children’s Center since 2011. I started as a Lead preschool 3s teacher at our Reston location and fell in love with with teaching children. I love coming to work and greeting each family by name to help facilitate a warm and home like environment. I have my Early Childhood Careers Studies Certificate and am working to complete my associates in Early Childhood Education.
Outside of Winwood, I enjoy hanging out with my family, traveling, and trying new and interesting foods.
Ms. Sonali
Teacher of the Year
Ms. Sonali has been in early education for 21 years and holds a Child Development Associate’s Degree. Sonali was born in Sri Lanka and is now a resident of Northern Virginia with her husband and two children. In the classroom she integrates her love of music in her teachings and strives to create a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels loved, encouraged and excited to grow. Her favorite piece of children’s literature is Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar and if she wasn’t a teacher she said she would most definitely have become a Flight Attendant!
