Kind Child Program

Kind Child Program LogoKind Child is a proprietary program that allows us to help our preschool students develop character and social skills. Our goal is to improve the emotional well-being of each child in our care and help our students build strong friendships.

Kind Child programming is included in our monthly curriculum and kindness is a fundamental part of our preschool’s culture. We focus on new social-emotional skills each month and a different character trait like a Positive Self-Image or Thankfulness every two months. We have found that when we focus on the social and emotional well-being of our students, we strengthen our school too!

Catharine Jensen

Catharine Jensen

School Director

Hi there! My name is Catharine Jensen, but feel free to call me Caity. A native of Ashburn, VA, with a love for animals and the great outdoors, I find happiness in spending my time surrounded by dogs, watching hummingbirds go about their day, and tending to my beloved garden. I’ve been working at Winwood Ashburn since 2014, starting as a floater before moving on to become a lead teacher in the pre-kindergarten room. I was thrilled to transition to the role of assistant director in 2020, driven by my deep-seated passion for early childhood education. Fostering a nurturing and gentle environment for young ones is very important to me, reflecting my values and aspirations for the future of the world. Fun fact – did you know that I used to be a student at Winwood Ashburn back in 1999? I find it very rewarding to come full circle and contribute to the growth and development of young children in my community, where my roots run deep.

Accreditations

NAEYC Accreditation

Every child deserves access to high-quality early learning experiences. NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) has set 10 standards for early childhood programs that can help families make the right choice when they are looking for a child care center, preschool, or kindergarten. The standards and criteria are also the foundation of the NAEYC Accreditation system for early childhood programs. To earn NAEYC Accreditation, schools must go through an extensive self-study and quality-improvement process, followed by an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to verify and ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are always prepared for unannounced quality-assurance visits during their accreditation term, which lasts for five years. In the 30 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC—less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.
