About Cadence Academy Preschool, Surfside
Cadence Academy Preschool, Surfside provides loving care and early education programs for preschool children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old and after school care and summer camp for local elementary students. We take a skills-based approach to early education that balances the development of intellectual, creative, and physical skill and we attend to the social and emotional needs of our students through our Kind Child program.
We are very excited to announce that we are participating in the First Steps 4K program and the new First Steps 4K + SIBLINGS program. First Steps 4K offers free four-year-old kindergarten to qualifying children in South Carolina. First Steps 4K + SIBLINGS extends childcare and after-school scholarships through the SC Voucher Program, for up to 52 weeks, to any siblings, age 0-12, of a First Steps 4K enrolled student. Our Approach to Early Education
We believe that the best way to support the early development of academic skill is to give our preschool children an appropriate level of control over their learning process. Our students are continually offered a variety of playful educational activities in learning centers around the classroom and also take part in lots of small group activities with our teachers.
Our Ascend Curriculum starts in our Infant program and is designed to help our children progressively valuable build skill sets that will serve them in kindergarten and beyond! We introduce new skills in nine subject areas every month and modify individual activities to match the interests and learning styles of our students so that these first education experiences are engaging and fun!
What Makes Our Preschool Unique?
- We provide our parents an app which keeps you updated on your child’s progress throughout the day.
- Our lead teachers have their South Carolina teaching credentials and many have their Associates or Bachelors degree too.
- Our wonderful cook prepares a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack daily at no additional cost.
- We have the best After School program in Surfside Beach, which includes homework help and free transportation from local elementary schools.
- We offer programs for school-age children during school breaks.
Our Preschools in Myrtle Beach
Cadence Academy has two preschools in Myrtle Beach. Cadence Academy Preschool, Myrtle Beach is a block west of Edward E Burroughs Highway on Perry Road. Cadence Academy Preschool, Surfside is just south of where Corporal Dennis Lynden Memorial Highway (SR 544) intersects Highway 17. Our preschool is off of Beaver Run Boulevard at , which can be reached from either highway.

School Director
I joined the Cadence Academy family in May 2014. I grew up in Montgomery County, MD, right outside of DC. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and began working with children in high school. I pursued a degree in early childhood education and taught preschool for 10 years. In 2004 I was promoted to Director and then a Manager within the same company. In April of 2014, my husband and I moved to Myrtle Beach and I joined the Cadence Academy family in May 2014. I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to work with such amazing teachers, children and families!
Donna Watford
Assistant Director
I started in early childhood education back in 2014. I started here at Cadence as a substitute teacher and worked with all age groups. After falling in love with what I do I continued my career here at Cadence and became the Assistant Director in 2019. I really enjoy watching each child grow and develop. Mastering new skills and milestones. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and crafting, reading and traveling.
Marlene Reed
Teacher
I was born on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I am married with three children. I have worked with young children for over thirty years and love what I do. I have my certificate in Early Childhood Education, am CPR and First Aid certified and have received countless hours of additional trainings in the field. I have been part of the Cadence family for 10 years and truly enjoy working with my toddlers. I am excited to begin this incredible journey of loving, laughing and learning with your family!

Teacher of the Year
I started in early childhood education in 2018 as an older 2’s teacher and throughout the years I have worked with all age groups, but the infant room has a special place in my heart. I have learned a lot over the years and have grown as a teacher. I love making a difference in children’s lives and watching them grow. In my free time I like to spend time with my friends and family and enjoy going to the beach and doing yoga.
