About Cadence Academy Preschool in Portland, OR

Cadence Academy Preschool, Portland offers nurturing childcare and preschool programs for families in NE Portland. This school served as a preschool in the community for over thirty years prior to us opening our doors, but needed major remodeling before it became the first Cadence Academy location in 2000. Our preschool center features two cottages, a fenced playground, and an outdoor gardening area. We are proud to lead the way in preparing children for kindergarten. Through our specialized curriculum and dedicated teachers, we strive to ensure that your child is not just ready for kindergarten, but ready to excel. In 2024, 100% of the Pre-K children assessed in our school demonstrated Readiness or Advanced Readiness for Kindergarten!

Our Educational Philosophy

We take a balanced approach to early childhood education and have created a preschool environment where children find joy in learning. We are focused on the social, emotional, and intellectual development of each child in our care and we work towards the acquisition of meaningful and useful academic skills. We give each child the tools to succeed so that when they enter more formal educational systems later in life, they have the skills and confidence to thrive. Our preschool and childcare programs encourage positive relationships and the development of critical thinking skills, which evolve through experimentation, exploration, and play.

Family Involvement

Communication between parents and school is a critical aspect of a successful early educational experience. We have a Parent Orientation prior to your child’s start date, parent conferences each April, and constantly provide feedback on your child’s development. We have an open door policy and encourage your involvement in our preschool community. Many parents stop by to read to the children, help in the garden, participate in school events, or join us on field trips.

Getting To Our Preschool

Our Portland center is located at 334 SE 146th Ave, Portland, OR 97233, just south of SE Stark Street. We are conveniently close to Margaret Scott Elementary School and Parklane Park, making morning drop-offs and daily routines seamless for neighborhood families.

Situated minutes from I-205 and I-84, with easy access to the SE Stark commuter corridor, our preschool provides an effortless commute. It is an ideal stop for caregivers traveling locally toward Gresham, the Gateway Transit District, or into Downtown Portland.

Ms. Nicole

Teacher of the Year

Nicole is our Teacher of the Year at Cadence Academy Gateway. She is our Pre-K teacher and is extremely creative, nurturing, and excited about children’s learning! She is always in tune with her student’s needs and is constantly striving for best solutions to create a fair, kind, and educational environment for all children in her care. She is the final step to prepare children for the transition to Kindergarten and excels at it. In her free time, she enjoys sculpting and camping with her cat Frog and dog Teegan. She has a love for storytelling and art with the children and seeing what their creative minds come up with!

We’ve had a really positive experience so far! My daughter Athena is 3 and this is her first time in preschool, so I was definitely nervous about such a big change for her. She hadn’t really had the opportunity to be around many kids her age before, and she’s still developing her communication skills. The teachers have been welcoming, patient, and understanding while she adjusts. It makes me feel so much better knowing she has a place where she can learn, play, make friends, and become more independent. She’s already excited about going to school, and seeing her grow and experience new things has been really special. 💚 I would definitely recommend this school to other parents, especially those who may be nervous about sending their little one to preschool for the first time.

Amazing teachers, everyone is so warm and loving and so great with little kids. They have so many wonderful activities to keep the kids entertained. We love this school so much!! A huge shout out to Teachers Lydia and Susana, and Director Nicole, for making my two year old excited to come to school every day!!

I had no idea I’d love this school so much! The teachers are amazing and I love how warm and welcoming they make the environment. My daughter has gone here for 3 years with no problems! We had so much fun being apart of the Cadence family and will definitely enroll my son in the future. We’re very sad to leave but do so knowing my daughter was well taken care of and learned so many things!
