TARTTs Daycare Centers proudly introduces TARTTs at The Factory, our newest location serving children from 2 months to 4 years, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Situated between Harrison Avenue and Albany Street in Boston’s Historic South End, this vibrant center features modern and uniquely designed classrooms that inspire creativity and foster learning, two exclusive outdoor play spaces for exploration and fun, and an indoor play space to ensure active playtime regardless of the weather. At TARTTs at The Factory, we are dedicated to creating a nurturing and stimulating environment where young minds can grow, play, and thrive.
In 1946, Bessie Tartt Wilson opened a small childcare program in her Boston home with a simple belief: every child deserves to feel welcomed, supported, and inspired. Originally arriving in Boston with dreams of becoming a nurse, Mrs. Tartt Wilson adapted after polio made that path difficult. Instead, she created something extraordinary—a nurturing place where all children were included and encouraged to grow. Eighty years later, that spirit still fills TARTT’s classrooms.
Walk through our doors today and you might hear children singing classic songs like “Did You Feed My Cow?”—a tradition that has brought joy to generations of families. For four generations, the Tartt family guided and grew up in this special community in downtown Boston. What began in a two-family home has grown into three beloved centers serving families in the heart of the city. Today, as part of Cadence Education, TARTT’s continues its legacy—combining the warmth of its boutique roots with innovative learning environments like our newest location at TARTT’s at The Factory, featuring thoughtfully designed classrooms and inspiring play spaces.

At TARTTs Day Care Center, we’re committed to nurturing well-rounded development through engaging, age-appropriate programs. Our curriculum encourages exploration, creativity, and growth across multiple areas, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive. Children enjoy daily music and movement experiences that build confidence, coordination, and a love of learning through song and play. We also provide nutritious hot meals and snacks each day, included as part of our program, so families can feel confident their children are well cared for from morning to afternoon.
We spark young children’s natural curiosity through daily sensory exploration. From books and sensory tables to songs and interactive activities, children experience a variety of sights, sounds, textures, and sensations. Our dedicated educators ensure each day is filled with joyful learning moments that encourage discovery and wonder.
Movement is essential for a toddler’s growth. Our program emphasizes activities that enhance both gross and fine motor skills, including tummy time, safe indoor exploration, and outdoor play. We also promote independence by teaching practical skills such as using buttons, zippers, and snaps, as well as learning to eat with utensils and drink from a cup.
Through imaginative play, storytelling, and carefully selected toys and instruments, children learn to understand themselves and their relationships with others. These activities foster creativity, empathy, and a sense of self-awareness while encouraging curiosity about the world around them.
We cultivate a love for exploration and problem-solving with science and math-based activities. Our educators guide children through experiments, observations, and hands-on play to build critical thinking skills. By encouraging curiosity and wonder, we help children develop confidence and a passion for lifelong learning.
Art is a vital part of our curriculum, promoting creativity, self-expression, and innovation. From painting and crafting to exploring different art mediums, children are encouraged to take creative risks and express their unique ideas. These experiences help build skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and imaginative thinking, laying a strong foundation for future success.
Music and dance are integral to life at TARTTs. Children engage in daily musical and movement activities, guided by both our educators and professional artists in residence. These experiences foster a sense of community and belonging while enhancing cognitive abilities like memory and spatial reasoning. With a focus on engaging all the senses, our music and dance program supports healthy growth and development.
TARTTs at The Factory is conveniently located at 56 Wareham Street in Boston’s Historic South End, positioned at the junction of the Mass Pike and I-93 exits. Our location is easily accessible by car and public transit, with Silver Line connections on the MBTA just a short walk away. Alexa Schlicher brings a lifelong passion for early childhood education to her role as Assistant Director. With a degree in Sociology focused on Children and Families, and years of hands-on experience as a preschool teacher, nanny, and student teacher, she is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where both children and educators can thrive. Alexa believes the earliest years are the foundation for a child’s future and finds joy in fostering connection and growth. Outside of work, she enjoys arts and crafts, playing guitar, crocheting, painting, caring for her pets, and diving into a good book.
