About Cadence Academy Preschool, Fivemile River in Norwalk, CT
At Cadence Academy Preschool, Fivemile River, we provide premium early education and nurturing care for children ages 6 weeks through 10 years. Our school blends the warmth of a close- knit community with the strength of the Cadence Education family. We focus on building confidence, encouraging curiosity, and supporting every stage of your child’s development in a safe and joyful environment where children feel secure and valued.

What makes Fivemile River special is our deep commitment to families. We plan our staffing with close teacher child connections in mind, creating a setting where children feel known, supported, and cared for like part of our own family. Our experienced, tenured teachers are deeply rooted in our school community and build lasting relationships with the children and families they serve.
Every teacher is certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid, exceeding state requirements, and completes additional professional development hours each year to continually grow and strengthen their expertise.We make busy family life easier with all-inclusive tuition. Children enjoy breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day, with a focus on fresh fruits and vegetables.
We work closely with families to accommodate dietary allergies and individual nutritional needs to ensure every child is cared for safely and thoughtfully. Enrichment programs are also included in tuition, such as our beloved weekly music program with Mr. Frank for all age groups, yoga for children ages 2 and up, Jiu Jitsu for ages 3 and up, and Spanish exposure beginning in infancy. Optional programs like Soccer Shots and our Kids Café cooking class are available for a small additional fee.
Our school environment is designed to encourage active learning and healthy development year-round. Children benefit from a dedicated indoor motor development room, a covered outdoor play area, and two private rooftop playgrounds secured with privacy fencing. For added peace of mind, families have unlimited access to live classroom cameras at no additional cost.

Brittany DeSousa
School Director
Brittany DeSousa serves as the School Director and brings more than 16 years of experience in early childhood education. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Western Connecticut State University with a concentration in Early Childhood Education.
For the past eight years, Brittany has served as a school leader, where she has built strong partnerships with families, supported and mentored teachers, and helped create a nurturing school community where children can learn, grow, and thrive. She understands the importance of trust when families choose an early childhood education provider and works hard to ensure every family feels confident their child is cared for and supported each day.
Brittany places children at the heart of everything she does. She is passionate about creating a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to be their unique self. She is equally dedicated to supporting her teachers and has built a strong, collaborative team that works together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
Outside of school, Brittany enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, Marco, and their two amazing daughters, Melina and Mariana. As a family, they love spending time outdoors—visiting local parks, gardening together, and enjoying trips to the beach.
Danielle Civil
Assistant Director
Danielle Civil is the Assistant Director at Cadence Academy Preschool and has had a passion for working with children since she was young. She loves supporting early learners as they grow, explore, and discover new things each day.
Danielle earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and her master’s degree in early childhood education.
She began her career as an Assistant Teacher in the Wobblers classroom and quickly discovered her love for teaching and nurturing young children. She later became a Lead Teacher, where she built strong relationships with children and families while supporting each child’s development.Within a year, Danielle stepped into the role of Curriculum Director, helping bring developmentally appropriate learning experiences to every classroom throughout the school. Most recently, she was promoted to Assistant Director.
While Danielle loved being in the classroom, she now enjoys supporting every classroom in the school and mentoring teachers so they can provide the best care and learning experiences for each child. She is passionate about helping create a safe, joyful environment where children can learn, have fun-filled days, and where families feel confident their little ones are in caring hands.
