Why Is a Homelike Environment Important for Children?

Table of Contents

Children are able to learn more successfully when the classroom environment is like their home environment. A soothing school environment makes the transition from home to school easier and reduces tension in small children. That’s why we do our very best to make sure our schools are warm and inviting – just like home.

Teachers and staff choose items that make them feel comfortable and at home – things that they would display in their own homes – things that they enjoy looking at every day. And, everything in our classroom environment serves a purpose.

Classrooms contain curtains, picture frames, and plants and we place photos, artwork, and other items at the children’s eye level. We use calming, natural tones and include soft elements such as pillows, soft seating areas, rugs, and soft lighting to make our school as comfortable and as nurturing as home.
