Create A Colorful Masterpiece!

As the children explore air power this month we are encouraging the children to use their breath to explore this! You will pour paint on the paper and have the child blow through the straw to move the paint around.  This creates some pretty stunning art.

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Paint
  • Straws (Reusable Encouraged)

Age-appropriate Adaptations:

  • Two-year-olds—For the two year olds you can help to show them what it means to blow (“blow like the candle”). Ask them to choose the colors they would like to paint with and help them to name the colors.
  • Three-year-olds—Have the children name the colors as they choose them. Talk with them about how the air that they are blowing is what is moving the paint!
  • Four-/Five-year-olds—Have the children predict what will happen when they blow on the paint, ask them to find other tools that might move the paint in the same way.  Ask your child to write about the experience.

Skills Supported: Explore how it looks and feel when air moves, paint at an easel, color recognition
